FAMILY NETWORK'S PAM PHILLIPS WESTON WELLNESS FAIR
Family Network, a division of Family Focus is local non-profit organization located in Highland Park celebrating 30 years of service to parents and children from birth through elementary school in three distinct programs. The Right From The Start Program, which provides extensive services to the Latino community in Highland Park and Highwood, held a wellness fair honoring Pam Phillips Weston, a longstanding program supporter on March 18th at The Highwood Recreation Center. The event included some of their collaborating partners and volunteers: The Lake County Health Clinic provided diabetes tests and The University of Illinois Extension Family Nutrition Program provided activities for children to encourage healthy nutrition habits. A Zumba class and a music concert was provided for little children along with arts and crafts, face painting, games, and healthy snacks. One hundred and twenty participants attended the event. The participants enjoyed the activities and healthy snacks.
This event is part of the Pam Phillips Weston Fitness and Nutrition program. After Pam Phillip’s corporation was sold in 2007, Pam channeled her energy and 30 years of experience in the fitness field towards helping low-income Latino families in the Highland Park and Highwood area. Her program reinforces the importance of a healthy lifestyle while participants have fun.
With Pam’s expertise and the funding provided by The Weston Foundation, The Right From The Start Program developed a Fitness and Nutrition Program for adults and children. The Afterschool Fitness and Nutrition program provides healthy snacks, nutrition education, and fitness activities to children attending Oak Terrace School. It also funds a ballet class and adult fitness classes. Over the past five years this program has served 222 adults. The Fitness and Nutrition Program has benefited 95 children, and 15 girls with the ballet class.
